We have had various meetings as a group and we of course decided on the genre/theme of our opening sequence in the first meeting and then proceeded to draw up a story board. Which can be seen in our post about project development (post). We also thought about specific shots that we would like to use, this can also be seen in the project development post as we have uploaded images of us whilst working.
Later meetings, we discussed about where we are with our work and then we figured out what step we next needed to take, for example we would set individuals the tasks of researching sound tracks which could used for our piece or even titles and artwork which could be effective.

Editing
Today we came up to edit our sequence in a group.
We have nearly finished editing our piece and it will soon be finished, it has taken time but we're almost complete, we have used the software Adobe Premier and below is an example of us editing. The left side organising our clips and on the right the preview, on the bottom is our timeline.
We have found that this programme is quite tricky to use however after experimenting with the footage we have found that it is a really good programme which enables us to do a lot.
Locations
At first we said that we would shoot our opening sequence at the putney exchange centre as we thought it would create a good atmosphere and it suited our plans for filming and allowed us to film exactly how we wanted to, however this came with difficulties as we was not allowed to film at putney due to private property permissions.
So then we decided that we would film in New Malden car park, we chose this as it was also just as convenient for us as it did not not restrict any of the shots which we had planned to shoot in Putney, New Malden was also convenient due to where most of us live.

These four images above and to the left are all the images of our location on the roof of the car park, we thought it was effective because of the open space and the back drop it gives with the view as it overlooks everything else.
These two are images of the stairs and the lifts, which are both used in our opening scene, we used a lift and stairs as we wanted to highlight the contrast between the two different characters.

We want to use these props to emphasise the conventions of the thriller/ crime genre.
These were our initial ideas, however we came to the conclusion that it would be difficult to be able to use the guns and the balaclava's in our opening sequence as it goes against our health and safety regulations and the gun's especially would pose a diffuculty in public, as members of the public could easily become confused and mistake the toy guns for real ones.
In the end we decided to only use the two duffle bags as props.
Storyboarding!
In our lesson today we sat down and talked about the ideas which we have. We agreed on a couple of main ideas considering our decided location which is a car park nearby and therefore we thought we were ready to start creating our storyborad!

Planning
In our second meeting we worked together to create a rough ideas of what our film is going to look like. We went over ideas concerning particular camera shots, props, location etc. We probably won't end up using all of our ideas as we intend to but we believe that creating a storyboard and mind map before filming is really going to help us to get a very rough idea of HOW we are going to film and HOW we are going to organise to film our opening sequence.

We only had a couple ideas which to us looked good but we still weren't sure whether we should proceed with this idea therefore we are going to give each other some time to think about this because we want our opening sequence to be good.

Opening Credits/Titles
I really like this opening sequence. The way it is made really establishes the mood of the film and the sound of the Adelle song makes it sad but in a way very mysterious and that is a strong effect. The way the 'sinking Bond' works his way around the credits is very effective and imaginative and I really like that. At the start he gets dragged down and this seems like he is dragged down by the natures powers. It is no where near creating tension or holding your breath comparing this to other action movies opening sequences. This proves to be calm and smooth going.
The credits are actually white and appear slowly smoothly and they're not sharp. The woman half way through the sequence reminds me of a bit from ashes to ashes in the women's dream. This proves to be another effective factor because it reminds uf of who Bond is and what the real feel of the movie is. That it's ACTION.

The Art of the Title
The Art of the Title.. It is very significant and shows importance to the opening of a sequence. I think it establishes the mood of the film and is the very first factor which gives off the feeling of the movie.
From the beginning we notice this is going to be about something dark. All black is used and the use of light gives the object in this opening a shining effect therefore we can distinguish between what's what.
This starts off with the name of the production companies, 'COLUMBIA PICTURES AND METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER PICTURES PRESENT'. Which is a very standard way of introducing an opening to a film
Because the title is 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' we expect to see something red related to dragons but to our surprise it is all monochrome of blach. Also the fact that it's a tattoo makes this fit well as tattoo's are black and dark and some ever scary.
The lit splint creates a huge contrast with what's being shown to us from the start. Anything that the splint touches, touches then something else and so on and it spreads and flies off in a form of some sort of weird creature with wings. Dragons had wings therefore this also links.
As the opening progresses on it becomes more and more violent with the smaching of faces and an eyeball melting inwards which in my opinion is pretty disgusting.
To the end of this opening the shots speed up to roughly about less than a second for each shot. This is a nice way to end an opening seqence as it brings the audience to a point of stop to reflect back upon what they've just seen. Which was pretty disturbing.

Representation
Represenatation is what we see in the film- the way certain types of information are conveyed to the audience. It is the literal representation of the real world... (genders, social groups, age, origin, job, culture, race etc.) or not the real world. An example can be a Madonna concert. If you have ever been to a concert before then you would know that it is way louder at a concert especially of someone like Madonna's popularity. Straigh away we notice that the sound of the audience has been either faded a little or definetly turned down as Madonna's voice is very clear to the audience watching it online.
Representation done by the media is never, ever one hundred per cent accurate. Actually many times it's not accurate at all. Let's take someone from the audience put them in front of a lap top at home and make them watch this video online.. They are most likely going to say, 'Wait a minute, the sound wasn't tak clear at the concert when I was there. And the level of noise made by the audience was tremendous- What's going on?' This happens with exactly everything. A report in the news focusing on how teenagers are becoming violent and not respecting anyone 'blah, blah' with a stereotypically seen girl- a 'chav' in the foreground- will definatley make us think she's bad. But what's being omitted here is what most of the teenagers do that is GOOD. Therefore sometimes if not always representations prove to be stereotypical. I wanted to focus on women and the different roles they have been represented in..

SALT
'Salt' is one of Angelina Jolies mostly knows movies. It is an action and crime film, which shows the total opposite side to women. I believe it took the audience by surprise that women can be so trained and become such high and proffesional agents, it is only the movie of course but it makes us think whether there are women like this out there and I believe there are. This is exactly what representation is. It makes us judge and think upon what we see before us. But of course, naturally we think that women can't do such things and that what this film represents may be seen az absurd to some- although I disagree.
On the other hand a very stereotypical, but in very many cases true, was the representation of Becky in Kidulthood. A cheap, straight yet complicated girl, some may see her as a 'prostitute'(nice way of putting it) because she has sex for money and to get drugs. The representation of this girl by the way she dressed, the way she acted- which was very violent in most cases, and the way she talked is just another stereotypical way of portraying and representing the types of teenagers in todays societies.. Although again, not all teenager are like that but this is what the representation in this film creates.. The feel that most teens are like that.
Representation... a way to represent, change views, but not all is bad- to also show the reality...
